The WorkFirst program assists recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance from DSHS who need training in order to enter the workforce. WorkFirst funding typically covers the career training programs that are one year in length or shorter, as well as GED or High School completion. Your DSHS case manager will need to approve your program of study.

If you qualify, you may receive funding for your tuition and textbooks.

You may be eligible for WorkFirst if you are receiving TANF cash assistance and have an electronic referral from your DSHS case manager.

To get started, please take the Start Next Quarter survey and sign-up for the next Educational Planning Workshop. Those who are interested in GED, High School Completion or English as a Second Language classes may call the Workforce Education Office directly at (206) 934-3787 to schedule a one-on-one appointment instead of attending a workshop.
