Flexible Formats In Sociology Department

Cross-Listed Courses

The Sociology department at North Seattle College offers small classes (25-35 students) with more personal attention from your instructor than on some larger campuses.

Flexible class formats accommodate various schedules, whether you prefer a fully online class (up-to-date technology and highly interactive), a hybrid (online portion to present material and on-campus class time to consider case studies and apply principles), or a class meeting entirely on campus in the traditional format. Case studies, group discussion and cutting-edge technology are incorporated into various classes.

Coursework applies to your AA degree, transfer preparation without a degree, individual courses for those already in a 4-year school, fulfillment of requirements for career training programs, and personal enrichment.

Some Courses Conveniently Cross-Listed

Course offerings include Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to American Culture, Race and Ethnic Relations in the United States, Social Psychology, and Human Sexuality.

There is cross-listing of some sociology and psychology courses, giving you flexibility in meeting requirements.

Atkins Teaches Both Psychology & Sociology

Robert Atkins

As an instructor in both psychology and sociology at North, Robert Atkins says that the study of larger society in the context of sociology complements the more individual-oriented study of psychology.

During my time at North, I took sociology classes with Dr. Robert Atkins, who is a great teacher and passionate about his work. He cares about his students and is humorous, too. He made the material interesting and easy to understand, offering clear explanations and examples as well as professional guidance. The study of sociology has been extremely useful to me. It has increased my awareness of society, provided me with analytical tools, and enabled me to become more conscious of my rights and duties as a member of society.
