Political Science Department

Investigate Politics, Power, and Policy-making in NSC’s Political Science Department

Political Science is the study of governments and how they work. Political scientists study matters concerning the allocation and transfer of power in decision making, the roles and systems of governance including governments and international organizations, political behaviors, and public policies.

Courses offered at NSC include Introduction to Political Science, American Government, International Relations, and Politics of the Middle East. In addition to the core political science courses noted above, Integrated and Coordinated Studies options such as Women in Politics are also regularly offered.

Political science courses are scheduled in traditional classroom formats, in hybrid options or as online courses. The content for political science classes is updated every quarter so that relevant current events may be integrated into the curriculum. Theory and general concepts remain important, but incorporating what is going on in the world at this moment prepares you for knowledgeable discussions about the economy and issues in upcoming elections.

Your political science courses will satisfy A.A. degree or transfer preparation without a degree, provide individual courses if you are already in a four-year school, satisfy requirements for business programs, or provide personal enrichment.

After a decade working in government, Jill Lane has found her passion in teaching.

Through both live and discussion board interactions in class, I emphasize critical thinking and foster debates that allow students to understand the relevance of political science, see how government works, and learn how to participate in the field of political science should they so choose.
